TSMC Announces $100 Billion Investment in U.S. Semiconductor Manufacturing

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s largest chip manufacturer, has announced a significant investment of $100 billion in the United States over the next four years. This investment will expand TSMC’s presence in Arizona, increasing its total U.S. investment to $165 billion. The expansion includes plans for three additional chip manufacturing plants, two advanced packaging facilities, and a research and development center. This move is part of broader efforts by the U.S. government to enhance domestic semiconductor production, driven by concerns over national security and economic dependence on foreign chip suppliers. President Trump has been pushing for increased chip manufacturing in the U.S., threatening tariffs on imported semiconductors to incentivize companies like TSMC to invest domestically. The investment is expected to create thousands of jobs and bolster the U.S. position in advanced chip production, which is crucial for technologies like artificial intelligence and smartphones.
