Kia EV9 to Receive Bi-Directional Charging Capabilities for Home Power Backup

Kia EV9 owners will soon be able to use their electric SUVs to power their homes, thanks to the new Wallbox Quasar 2 bi-directional charger set to ship in June. This charger, the first of its kind in the US compatible with the EV9, allows energy to flow both to and from the vehicle’s battery. To use the home power backup features, owners will need to purchase a Power Recovery Unit in addition to the charger. The setup can help during power outages by keeping lights and essential appliances running. However, homeowners will need at least 200-amp electrical service and may require approval from local utility providers. The Quasar 2 also supports solar energy integration, enabling users to charge the EV9 using solar power or during off-peak hours and potentially sell excess energy back to the grid. Preorders are open for EV9 owners on a first-come, first-served basis.
