Honor Unveils UI Agent: An On-Device AI Assistant for Android

Honor has introduced its new UI Agent, a mobile AI assistant powered by Google’s Gemini 2 model, at Mobile World Congress 2025. This on-device AI can understand and interact with app interfaces, performing tasks like restaurant bookings without relying on external APIs. The agent uses multimodal screen context recognition to autonomously execute multi-step processes. While it leverages Google’s Gemini 2 for intent recognition and semantic understanding, Honor employs in-house execution models and partners with Qualcomm for on-device processing. The company claims this approach is more cost-effective than competitors’ API-dependent solutions. Honor also announced a seven-year software update policy for its flagship devices and unveiled new products including earbuds, a smartwatch, a tablet, and a laptop. The demonstration showcased the AI’s capabilities but also revealed limitations, such as the need for user intervention when faced with unexpected scenarios. This development is part of Honor’s $10 billion Alpha Plan, which aims to prioritize AI integration in personal technology devices.
