Anysphere Seeks $10 Billion Valuation for AI Coding Assistant Cursor Amid Rapid Growth
Anysphere, the company behind the AI-powered coding assistant Cursor, is reportedly in talks to raise funds at a valuation nearing $10 billion. This potential funding round comes just three months after Anysphere secured $100 million at a $2.5 billion pre-money valuation. The round is expected to be led by returning investor Thrive Capital, although neither Anysphere nor Thrive Capital has commented on the matter. Anysphere’s annualized recurring revenue (ARR) is estimated to have reached $150 million, suggesting the new valuation could be 66 times its ARR. This trend of high valuations is not unique to Anysphere; Codeium, another AI-focused company, is also raising capital at nearly $3 billion, with a valuation of around 70 times its ARR. The rapid growth in the AI coding tools sector highlights a broader trend of increased investor interest in AI applications for software development, outpacing adoption rates in other fields like healthcare and law. Poolside, a competitor developing its own language model, is also attracting significant investor attention. The surge in funding reflects optimism about the transformative potential of AI in software development.
