Apple’s Siri Modernization Delayed Until 2027, According to Report

Apple is reportedly facing delays in its efforts to revamp Siri for the generative AI era. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a fully modernized, conversational version of Siri may not be released until iOS 20 in 2027. However, significant updates are expected before then. A new version of Siri, incorporating Apple Intelligence features announced almost a year prior, is slated to debut in May. This version will feature a ‘two-brain’ system, one handling older commands and the other managing more advanced queries utilizing user data. A system merging these two brains, internally known as ‘LLM Siri,’ is expected to be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a launch anticipated in spring 2026. Gurman suggests that only after this integration will Apple be able to fully pursue the development of Siri’s advanced capabilities, potentially rolling out in 2027. This phased approach indicates Apple’s commitment to gradually improving Siri’s functionality and integrating it more deeply with its AI initiatives, rather than releasing a complete overhaul immediately. The delay highlights the challenges involved in rebuilding a complex voice assistant to leverage the power of generative AI.
